The Mirror & the Light Summary:
The Mirror & the Light is the story of Thomas Cromwell, a man with a lot of power in the court of King Henry VIII of England. He was born poor but rose to become extremely influential and wealthy.
The novel begins after the murder of Anne Boleyn, who is the the second wife of the king. Cromwell was part of making that happen. Here, he assists the king in finding a new wife so as to attempts to maintain his influence.
Cromwell is intelligent, but people do not like him. Some believe that he is too dominant. Others upset because of the treatment with Anne Boleyn. He strives to please the king, but the king is not always a pleasure to satisfy.
As years pass, Cromwell gains more enemies. The people around him begin to rebel against him. Although he strives to remain firm, it becomes increasingly difficult.
At the conclusion of the story, Cromwell is arrested. The king no longer has faith in him so, He is imprisoned and ultimately, he is murdered—just like the individuals he used to help annihilate.
